Privacy policy

mobius, a personal assistant. Last updated 18 October 2026.

mobius is a self-hosted assistant that its owner runs for himself. It has one user, its owner. This policy describes what it does with data from his Google account.

What it reads

mobius asks Google for read-only access to its owner's Gmail (the gmail.readonly permission). It reads message headers, text and labels so it can tell him about mail that needs his attention and answer his questions about his mail. It doesn't send, delete or change mail, and it doesn't read any other part of his Google account.

Where the data goes

Mail is read by software on computers the owner runs at home and is processed there by language models running on those computers. What it tells the owner reaches his phone through Signal, which is end-to-end encrypted. What mobius keeps (short summaries, notes and reminders) stays on those computers and in the owner's own backups. Nothing is sold, shared with anyone, used for advertising, or sent to an outside AI service.

Google's user data policy

mobius's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Keeping and deleting

Notes and summaries are kept until the owner deletes them; he can tell mobius to forget something at any time. To cut off mobius's access to Gmail, remove it under Google Account › Security › Your connections to third-party apps & services. That stops all further reading at once.
